Summer Hair

Chris Moody of Moodyhair tells us what products we should be using to help keep our hair healthy throughout the summer months.

Sun, sea and sand may be good for lifting the spirits, but they’re not so great for our hair. Exposure to the suns rays even for a short time can contribute to dry and damaged hair, as well as faded colour, so you need a shampoo, conditioner and treatments with built in UV protection to protect your hair and help your colour and condition stay its best!

We all take care to apply protective sun creams to our skin, but it pays to remember that our hair is also prone to the same damages and stresses.

Hair is already dead when it comes out of the scalp, so when it gets damaged, unlike our skin, you can’t feel any of the tell tale signs of sun burn, also unlike our skin, the hair has no way of repairing itself unless we do something from the outside to help.

Specialist sun protection hair products contain ingredients that actively help and protect your hair and its pigments in the same way that your more familiar sun protection lotions do for your skin.

After sun shampoos cleanse the hair of harmful salts and chlorine deposits, while using anti-oxidants to neutralise harmful free-radicals. After sun conditioners gently moisturise and smooth, helping to detangle and soften the hair. It’s well worth investing in a “leave in” treatment that can be applied to hair through out the day. These products contain SPF sun screens and physically protect your hair while exposed to the sun.
