A warm welcome to our new,
award winning motoring editor
Don Booker MBE
 One of the North’s leading motoring writers, Don Booker MBE, has joined Around Town Publications as motoring editor and consultant.
He brings a wealth of experience to the company after writing on two and four-wheel topics for more than 45 years. He has visited 56 countries testing cars and has driven across the Middle East and the Far East.
Some years ago he was invited to tour Japan, visiting car manufacturers and component makers.
He has won nine national and international writing awards and on two occasions was named Northern Writer of the Year. He also won the prestigious Michelin Travel Award which allowed him to work on projects in Europe.
He was the first weekly newspaper writer to be accepted by the Guild of Motoring Writers and has been a member of the Northern Group of Motoring Writers for over 30 years, twice being chairman.

His special interest is classic cars, having owned Morgans for over 35 years. He has written articles on the true British sports car for magazines in Estonia and Russia. He owns a Morgan 4/4 70th Anniversary model.
Don was a founder director of Barnsley Hospice and helped to raise £1m for the project. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s New Year Honours for service to Barnsley and journalism and in millennium year was one of 20 people made a Barnsley Millennium Hero in recognition of service to the community.
A year ago one of his articles brought £4,000 to the Athersley Motormouth Project which helps teenagers with drug and social problems.
