Elephant and Castle, Hemingfield
 On a drizzly November evening it was a delight to get inside to the warmth and friendly welcome of The Elephant & Castle at Hemingfield.
Once through the door of this popular pub and restaurant, now under new ownership, I was surprised to see it opens up into a large contemporary eating area. The faint smell of home cooked food wafted through as we ordered our drinks and took our seats.
It was a nice to be offered an extensive choice of wine by the glass and I opted for my favourite, Pinot Grigio.

New owner Patricia Watson was keen to tell us about the numerous choices on offer that evening. As well as the normal menu, Thursday night is also ‘A Taste of India’ curry night with a choice of two curries, all the accompaniments and a selection of desserts. A number of chef's specials too were also on offer including three winter warming soups and several main courses. 
Starters arrived and were simply delicious, being polished off in record time as we were both starving. When my meat and potato pie and Brian's lamb shank arrived, they were both beautifully cooked and presented. My pie was full to bursting with succulent pieces of meat and Brian's lamb just fell off the bone.
A special festive lunch and evening menu is now available along with a five course meal on Christmas Day itself.
