The Riley’s are back
Dining Out at the Rose and Crown,
Hoylandswaine

 The Rileys are back; that is the loud and clear message coming from the Rose and Crown at Hoylandswaine.
James and Nikki have returned, and judging by the crowd at the bar and partaking in the restaurant on the Friday evening I visited, it is safe to say that more than normal service has been resumed.
Once inside, while Nikki brought our menu, my dinner companion, Maria, selected one of the four real ales on offer at the bar. Starters which initially caught the eye were the exotic Thai-spiced Shetland mussels and also the marinated baby squid. However, not feeling too adventurous, Maria opted for Riley's prawn, crab and salmon cocktail, while I made a vegetarian decision, going with the goat's cheese with roast peppers, balsamic salad and tomato jam.

The Riley's cocktail proved to be a subtly-blended plateful of marine delights with an energetic and spicy sauce. The goat's cheese was strong and deliciously offset by the semi-sweet tomato jam, which was a new taste experience for myself, as were the delightful home-baked cheese and herb bread rolls.
