Fabulous Cuisine...
Situated midway between Huddersfield and Wakefield, the Kaye Arms Inn & Brasserie is something of a local institution.
With a reputation for great food, the inn now has new owners at the helm determined to continue providing seriously good food.
Paul and Helen Andrews-Garth took over the Kaye Arms at Grange Moor in November 2007 and have only made slight changes, including a couple of new additions to the menu.
As experienced restauranteurs, they know the importance of maintaining an already successful business but have added their input with meticulous training of their young staff and by updating the extensive wine list.
With 90 covers and food served lunchtime and evening seven days a week, including all day Saturdays and Sundays from 12noon, Paul and Helen know the importance of a good wine list and now offer an ample choice along with 17 wines by the glass, including a pink and a sparkling wine.
Everyone is guaranteed a warm welcome at the Kaye Arms, regardless of whether you’re a regular diner or a new face. On the early Thursday evening three of us visited for dinner, the restaurant was already filling up quite nicely.

Standing at the bar for a few minutes we ordered a bottle of house red, a particularly pleasant smooth Shiraz, and then took our seats to ponder the menu. As well as a great selection of starters and main courses, there are also daily specials to tempt the palate.
At first glance a new visitor to the Kaye Arms may be forgiven for thinking this is quite a formal dining experience. Despite the elegantly laid tables and attentive service, this is actually quite a relaxed ambience in which to enjoy food at its best.
Looking at the choice we opted for a traditional prawn cocktail, home made Bresaola served with poached pears, rocket and Parmesan and Roll Mop Herrings with beetroot, apple and horseradish. All three were delicious and my prawn cocktail had just the right amount of seafood sauce often such cocktails are drenched in too much sauce for my liking.
Turning to the main course I ordered Roast Chicken breast stuffed with Mozzarella and sun blushed tomatoes, served with olive and tomato pasta and a mixed leaf salad. Exactly the kind of food I love and it really did live up to expectations.
The other two members of our party chose Poached Smoked Haddock served on beetroot and spinach with a soft poached egg and white wine sauce, and 4 Hours Crispy Belly Pork with mustard mash, braised red cabbage and pork jus.
The presentation of all three was perfect and so was the flavour!
Should we have a pudding? Well the desserts sounded too good to miss so we ordered an Assiette of Desserts, a plate of six mini-desserts to share. The choice included raspberry shortcake, aniseed parfait, vanilla ice cream, cinnamon panna cotta, rhubarb brulee and chocolate and amaretto mousse.
What a good idea to try a range of mini desserts and what a work of art it was when it arrived at the table. Truly beautiful and almost looking too good to eat! Coffees rounded off a truly memorable meal!
Paul and Helen should be congratulated on carrying forward the fine reputation of the Kaye Arms. As new owners it’s always tempting to change things and put your own personal stamp on a place. All they are doing is enhancing its reputation and presenting a seriously great dining experience. Good luck to them!
Although the Kaye Arms is not the cheapest place to eat, it does offer great food and a meal to remember. By the look of things, many people are already appreciating the fabulous cuisine and coming back time and time again.
Remember the Kaye Arms also offers a light lunch and sandwich menu for those who want to treat themselves at lunchtime.
