Dining Out - Seasons Bistro
at the Consort Hotel, Thurcroft
with Sam McQueen
The independent, family run Best Western Consort Hotel is situated in Thurcroft and boasts the new Seasons Bistro. Its bar has a superb range of beers, lagers and spirits and the restaurant itself has a proud reputation.
Maria and I arrived on a night of driving rain, but once inside the hotel foyer, and with friendly instruction on where to go, it was easy to forget the weather. The temperature, like the welcome from the bistro and bar staff, was warm and amicable.
We were quickly issued with the Seasons Spring menu and wine list as we took our drinks in the bar area. There is also the Blackboard Menu, which is changed on a regular basis, displayed prominently on boards on the wall. Made to feel comfortable in our surroundings, we made our selections, and selections there were; thirteen starters all told which made choice a perplexing but enjoyable event. Maria made a bid for the Smoked Mackerel, although she did strongly consider the Saute Chicken Livers, the Smoked Haddock Gratin and the Chicken Caesar Salad. The mackerel turned up with elegant pieces of toast and it was light and very 'moreish' according to my companion.
