Dining Out at Hellaby Hall Hotel
with Sam McQueen
With the mixture of a fine location, distinctive architecture and up-to-date amenities, Hellaby Hall Hotel is a unique South Yorkshire dining location.
My companion, Janine, remarked on entering that she had been so pleased when the original fine building had been rescued from its derelict state. The result is a 4 star hotel which has placed the old and the new in a satisfying blend with excellent restaurant facilities.
From the spacious reception area we were directed courteously up the balustraded staircase to the Carnelly Restaurant, where we were relieved of our coats and escorted efficiently to our table overlooking an inner courtyard.
With the choice of a glass of a tasty Italian wine, with a hint of almonds to it, from the comprehensive list, we placed our order at our ease. Janine’s choice for starters was the traditional prawn cocktail on a baby gem lettuce cushion. I went for the chicken liver parfait which had a smooth texture and was
served with red currant jelly and toasted brioche.
