A taste of Italy - Truly authentic Italian cuisine is now available in the Wakefield area at Gavi Ristorante & Pizzeria.
Our dining experience
Walk into Gavi and you’ll be greeted with a complimentary taster glass of Prosecco, an Italian Sparkling wine. This is an Italian tradition to get your taste buds tingling.
It is always an added bonus to have a great view with your meal. When you dine at Gavi Ristorante & Pizzeria, you’ll discover views of the 1st tee of the Acanthus Golf course. With a fantastic aroma from the wood burning oven and the waiters talking to each other in Italian, you actually feel like you have been transported into a restaurant in Italy.
Gavi has that feel of a family friendly restaurant; there was a real buzz to the atmosphere when we visited early one Sunday evening. With contemporary decor, the restaurant has striking marble top tables and high backed comfy Italian olive green and black chairs. I loved the aqua blue water glasses and elegant balloon wine glasses that dressed the table.

Looking at the menu we decided to start with one of the pasta dishes which can be served as a starter, the Spaghettini tossed with Scallops and Tiger Prawns in a tomato sauce and the Terrine of Baby Leeks, Duck and Wakefield Rhubarb in a Gavi wine vinaigrette. Both tasted absolutely delicious with fresh flavours and made an excellent choice to get our meal under way. It was interesting to see how the Gavi chefs had successfully combined the local flavour of rhubarb with Italian flavours genius!
For our main courses we chose one of the June specials of Fresh Baby Lobster with linguini pasta, cherry tomato, garlic and flat leaf parsley and the Affumicata pizza which combines Scamorza smoked cheese, basil and grilled aubergines, cooked in the aforementioned oven.
It was a unanimous decision we had made excellent choices all round! For dessert we just about had room to share a home made Sicilian Ricotta Cheesecake topped with a fresh raspberry puree, one of many great desserts which can be accompanied by a beautiful selection of Italian dessert wine from several regions of Italy. This together with a great range of coffees made with Caffe Vergnano from Turin and Italian liqueurs are all available to finish off your meal.
Gavi is a great night out for all occasions and all ages, whether you’re a family looking for a bustling Italian atmosphere or a couple who want some quality time together. With its views of the golf course and excellent menu, it has much to commend - we loved it!
Gavi Ristorante & Pizzeria is open Tuesday to Saturday between 12 noon and 2.00pm and 5.30pm to 10pm and from 12 noon to 9pm on Sunday. It is advisable to book for the weekend.
The Gavi Experience
Situated on Thorpe Lane, Tingley, the Gavi experience is the brainchild of Felice di Giorno, a well known restauranteur from Wakefield. His mission is to replicate the delicious flavours and delightful atmosphere of restaurants found in Italy.
Only authentic, quality ingredients are used and he has even imported a special wood burning oven from Italy which gives many dishes, particularly pizzas, a unique flavour.
Wherever possible, meat and vegetables are sourced from local produce. The restaurant, situated in the middle of the Rhubarb Triangle uses local rhubarb in several dishes.
To complement the well designed menu which includes many meat, fish, vegetarian and pasta dishes, as well as an extensive range of pizzas, Felice has personally selected Italian wines to enhance each particular dish. Ice cold Italian Peroni lager on draught is also available.
Family Dining
Experience true Italian family dining with the all-day Sunday family occasion, children can even create their own pizzas and watch them being cooked in the wood burning oven.
