Indian Food with a Difference...
Tucked away off the main Barnsley road at the side of Newmillerdam is the recently opened Spice 2 Nite restaurant, which offers an inspirational Bangladeshi and Indian menu.
Although Spice 2 Nite is only a compact, quite intimate, restaurant, it is big on menu choices, service and a friendly welcome.
Run by a young man who already has a similar successful restaurant in Skipton, Spice 2 Nite looks like being a welcome addition to the local dining out scene in Wakefield and district. He trained and gained his experience from the Jinnah group of restaurants around Yorkshire.
Offering dining on two floors (the upstairs also doubling as a function room) Spice 2 Nite is a contemporary restaurant offering the very best of modern dining with menu choices that reflect the owner’s determination to offer something a little different.
On the night we visited, the restaurant was busy despite it only being early in the evening. As soon as a table was empty, more diners arrived eager to try the innovative menu.
A special seafood buffet is available from 1pm to 10pm on Sundays and 6pm to 10pm on Wednesdays. This includes complementary papadoms and a mouth-watering sizzling starter served at the table. Eat as much as you like from four starters, six main courses, rice and naan bread.
Adults £9.95 and children under 12 £4.95. The menu changes weekly.

On warm sunny evenings diners will also be able to sit and eat at the outdoor dining area.
Once seated we ordered a couple of glasses of wine and a cold lager and devoured our generous helping of papadoms and pickles while choosing our main courses. The extensive menu really does offer something for everyone, including some set meal options for two or four people.
The choice of seafood dishes was enough to tempt one of our number who opted for the King Prawn Delight, a chefísspecial creation cooked in a mild sauce with various flavours and mango. Anyone ordering from the Spice 2 Nite menu will notice that many of the dishes include fruits such as mango, bananas etc.
Indeed another of our party opted for the Kashmiri Khana, a fragrant dish of spring chicken fillets sweetened with the addition of pineapple, lychees and creamed coconut and garnished with sliced bananas to make it one of the most aromatic dishes from the Southern Asian subcontinent.
As for myself, I took a while to decide but eventually opted for Butter Chicken which is cooked with butter, almonds, sultanas and cream. Added to this we chose two rice side dishes, a steamed and a lemon rice, and two naan breads, a peshwari and a coriander and garlic naan.
We immediately commented when the rice and nan breads arrived, how freshly made everything was the naan breads being particularly tasty and delicious.
All three dishes arrived piping hot after being cooked to order and we tucked in with gusto. The only negative comment any of us could make was that the King Prawn dish was a little ‘creamy’
