The New Wheatsheaf
The first thought that strikes you on a visit to The New Wheatsheaf at Castleford is that everything is on such a generous scale.
Walk into this popular pub/restaurant and you’ll be struck by how large and spacious it all is, pick up either the restaurant or bar menu and you’ll be amazed at the vast choices. Order your food and you’ll enjoy very generous portions.
Our recent Friday night visit to The New Wheatsheaf in Altofts Lane, Whitwood, was eagerly anticipated. We had heard about the reputation of the food at The New Wheatsheaf and, with hungry tums, were eager to choose our meals.
After parking up, a warm welcome awaited us and we were shown to our table. Even for a local holiday week - when many people go away - it was still quite busy in the restaurant for early Friday evening.
Choosing a bottle of house red - a very nice Merlot - we picked up the menus and were immediatly struck by the vast choice. With 30 starters followed by a great list of chicken dishes, lamb, steaks, fish and 10 vegetarian choices, where did we start?
